Elmo

Who is Elmo?

Elmo is my dog, he is a West Highland White terrier, otherwise known as a Westie.

Westies are known to be prone to allergies and skin issues. Their ears are known to collect wax and oils, and infections can develop if water builds up. Elmo used to suffer from these skin issues and ear problems. There are measures that can be taken in order to prevent them or get rid of them. Elmo does not have these issues anymore due to some measures we took. The paragraph below is about what we did to stop his allergies, skin issues and ear problems.

Elmo used to have very bad skin, and he would be constantly itching. We took him to a vet and had to put him on medication for awhile, and now that we are feeding him, bathing him, and cleaning his ears properly, he does not have any skin irritations at all. We clean the floor with plain water incase he is allergic to the detergent. We bath him with soft skin shampoo to keep his skin hydrated and prevent skin issues. We clean his ears with cotton buds regularly. Unfortunately, we don't feed him with any meats and some other kinds of foods in order to keep his skin allergies from acting up, we feed him with vegetarian dog pellets and sometimes add rice, cabbage, and carrots to his food. We also feed him with certain fruits, he enjoys eating apples a lot.

These dogs often need a lot of care, but it is definitely worth it as he is a very obedient, gentle dog. He has never bitten a human, and is generally good with other dogs. I teach him tricks, the tricks that he knows are, sit, lie down, shaking hand (with the paw we tell him to use), lying down sideways and begging. He also comes to you if you call his name.
