Scuba Diving in the Maldives

The Maldives is home to some of the best dive sites in the world. The water there is extremely clear giving a great amount of visibility, sometimes reaching 50 meters. There are thousands of reefs at the Maldives giving a large amount and variety of marine life. Many people venture to the Maldives because of its beautiful ocean.

The Maldives is where i learnt to dive and was certified as an Jr. Open Water Diver. I stayed at a resort called Kandooma, this was extremely enjoyable. The resort took up a small island, and it is possible to walk around the entire island in about 20 minutes. They had many activities such as windsurfing, sailing, volleyball along with many others. Diving there was very simple as the island was small, making it easy to get to the dive center. The island was also located near great dive sites which meant that the boat rides were extremely short.

My favourite dive site was called Manta Point, we went down to the bottom sat next to a large rock (this was about 18 meters deep). We waited as Manta Rays came up to the rock and started circling it. They did this because this rock was a cleaning station for them. Fishes had inhabited the rock, and would come out to eat all the dirt and parasites on the Manta Rays. I was extremely lucky to see a Manta Ray so early on, i had just been certified when i saw my first Manta.

Unfortunately i had not bought my camera and its under water casing yet, so i don't have any photos to show. But the marine life, ocean, and islands are beautiful there.
